Birmingham City`s transfer window is beginning to heat up with Barnsley captain Marc Roberts on the verge of signing for the club.

Another man that may potentially be joining him at St. Andrew`s next season is Preston North End striker Jordan Hugill.

He’s the latest player to be linked with the club and after an impressive 13-goal season, you can understand why Harry Redknapp would be interested.

The 25-year-old played a crucial role in the success at Deepdale last season as Simon Grayson led Preston to a top half finish that has since earned him the job at Sunderland.

From an outside looking in point of view, Hugill looks a very attractive prospect to any Championship side after the campaign he’s just had.

He’s a player that’s great in the air, loves a battle with defenders and can hold his own in this league.

However, isn’t this pretty much what Lukas Jutkiewicz does?

You could argue that Hugill is a better finisher and a bit more mobile which would allow him to run the channels and chase lost causes.

He’d definitely be a worthy signing in my opinion but only if we brought in another striker completely different to both Jutkiewicz and Hugill.

We’re going to need someone that plays with a lot more flair and pace if we’re going to compete at the top end of the table next season.

That’s where I expect Redknapp and his team to look overseas for a foreign signing that can do the business.

Lois Diony would’ve been the perfect addition to the side but a deal to bring him to the Second City looks to be fading.

There’s no doubt that Hugill is a very decent player that can cut it in the Championship and I’d happily take him but can he take us to the next level? Im not too sure.
