On Tuesday night, Blues boss Gary Rowett restored American international Jonathan Spector to the back four and it worked a treat for him.

Keeping their first clean sheet at home in the league this season was partly down to the fact that Spector had one of his best games this season against Blackburn Rovers alongside club captain Michael Morrison.

The duo handled Rovers’ deadly striker Jordan Rhodes with ease all night as they limited the visitors to just one shot on target in the whole game.

During the game, Spector won almost everything that came his way and that is always encouraging to see as a fan. You could see his passion and desire to do well and anybody who was at the game will mostly agree with me on that point.

Yes, some may say that in actual fact he was only brought in to cover Paul Robinson following his poor performance against local rivals Wolves at the weekend but who cares!

He covered the role fantastically well and I thought on the night he was very unlucky not to get the official Man of the Match, which in the end went to another player who was recalled to the starting XI, David Cotterill.

After the game, the versatile 29 year old spoke of his disappointment having not converted one of the many chances that the team had during the game but the fact that we kept a clean sheet means we can now build going into Saturday’s fixture against Fulham.

It is believed that Spector will continue his role in the side when Rowett’s men visit Craven Cottage, backed by over 4,000 Blues fans.

Most fans wouldn’t have seen the Illinois born defender coming back into the team at this stage following some highly impressive result from Robinson but after two consecutive 2-0 defeats in the league, former Burton Albion man Rowett must have thought it was time to change things back, and luckily it worked.

Rowett admitted that he got things wrong tactically on Saturday when Blues took on Wolves in front of the Sky cameras and I admire him for admitting that.

However I have to say I feel he got his tactics spot on for the game against Gary Bowyer’s side, despite him starting Andrew Shinnie over Jon Toral.

It is always refreshing as a fan to see somebody who has dropped out of the team come back in a pick up where they left off.

Speaking after the game, it was clear to see just how much Spector enjoyed being back in the side and how much he wanted to play for the club and that is what we need if we are to continue pushing results out.
