Premier League side Sunderland were relegated to the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon following their 1-0 defeat at home to AFC Bournemouth.

In-form Norwegian Josh King scored the only goal of the game at the Stadium of Light as the Cherries moved up to tenth in the league with the win over the Black Cats.

Although Birmingham City aren’t safe themselves, a win against Huddersfield Town on Saturday went along way to helping them stay in the division.

Next weekend, Harry Redknapp takes his side to Ashton Gate to take on Bristol City who shocked current league leaders Brighton and Hove Albion in the late kick off to secure their Championship status for another year.

However, should Redknapp be able to keep Blues in the Championship, here are two Sunderland players that I think he should try to sign this summer…and no, one of them isn’t Jermaine Defoe.

1. Jan Kirchhoff

The German midfielder has hardly featured for Sunderland this season meaning that he could be on his way out of the club this summer, providing that they don’t want to use him next season.

Blues have got a solid base to their midfield under Redknapp with Craig Gardner, David Davis and Maikel Kieftenbeld pulling the strings but a big, tall and strong midfielder wouldn’t go a miss in my opinion.

Personally I feel like 26-year-old Kirchhoff could be a fantastic option for Blues and Redknapp should he stay with us next season.

2. Jason Denayer

Although he technically isn’t a Black Cats player because he is on loan there from Manchester City, I feel like the 21-year-old defender would be a great signing for Blues next season.

He has shown that he has the quality to make it in the Premier League this season with some man of the match performances for David Moyes’ side but City may look to send him somewhere else and I think it could be to a promotion chasing team.

Should Blues still be in the Championship next season under the management of Redknapp then I think we will be pushing for promotion and I think Denayer could be a fantastic addition even if it was only on loan.

Blues fans, what do you make of the two names that have been suggested? Would you like to see either of them in a Blues shirt next season? Let us know in the comment section down below!
