Last week Birmingham City saw their opening double offer for Bristol City duo Aden Flint and Joe Bryan rejected.

It is believed that the offer that was turned down was in the region of £4 million for the pair.

Following some heated words in the press between Harry Redknapp and Lee Johnson, manager of the Robins, it is yet unknown whether Blues will go back in with a bid for either of the two defenders.

However, the chairman of Bristol City has now come out and said that they would be willing to accept an offer of £10 million for Flint, a figure that Johnson doesn’t believe Blues will match.

I totally agree with Johnson, I don’t think Blues will go ahead and match that price because Redknapp has openly stated that the club won’t go above what they believe is the correct value of a player and in this case I think Bristol City are being slightly over ambitious with their valuation of Flint.

With that in mind, I believe Blues should now fully focus their attentions of Flint’s fellow defender, Bryan.

It was reported yesterday in the national media that Leeds United and Fulham had entered the race for the 23-year-old left-back, with United believed to be readying a £2 million offer for him.

Personally, I feel as though if that is all the Robins are asking for them Blues should be looking to match that asking price immediately.

Don’t get me wrong, I will defend Jonathan Grounds until the cows come home because I think he is a good defender, but I also believe that Bryan could be the man to knock him off his perch.

£2 million in the market today is like a bag of peanuts and if Blues aren’t willing to spend that much on Bryan then you have to seriously question the motives of the owners of the club.

It is quite clear that Blues boss Redknapp sees Cheick Keita as a winger rather than a defender so bringing Bryan in seems like the right thing to do. Now let’s hope the board can make it happen.

Blues fans, do you think the club should forget about Aden Flint and focus on making a move for his fellow defensive partner Joe Bryan? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!

  • If we bring in Bryan and work on Keita as a left winger-then good. If we persevere with this farcical Flint saga then no go. My advice to Harry is this, put your arm around Shotton and welcome him back to the fold. Roberts,Morrison,Shotton,Grounds and ample and above for this position.Consentrate on the positions that ultimately may be your undoing-and we all know where that is.

  • As we’re playing Bristol City on Saturday I can’t see anything happening before that match, what we need most at the moment is a right midfielder/winger and a striker. I really can’t believe the amount of focus being put on strengthening the defence when our biggest problem is scoring goals.

  • Forget about defence and sign a striker. We have enough defenders already. If you can’t score the best you can hope for is 0-0.

  • Bryan at £2 million would be OK,Flint, move on Harry, not worth £10 million. As others have commented we are quite well stocked at the back,if Shotton were prepared to fight for his place there would be no need for Flint.I believe he’s unsettled because of Roberts coming in and becoming first choice centre back. It’s the forward line that needs surgery now,use whatever money we have available and go get us a decent striker or even better two. KRO

  • Again Le Hane you make a good point. Problem is we haven’t real money-hence the fight to get a Luton Town striker over the line at £1m.tops.

  • Ohio, you worry me,we both are bluenoses and I respect your opinion.I hope you get a reply from Brian so this situation can be resolved, most probably even he is not in the know about what’s happening in the background. This Luton striker appears to be good ( honestly can’t say as have seen almost nothing of him ),his goal scoring record is good,he got the season off to a flyer BUT he would be a gamble as not tested at Championship level.Sure, try and bring him in but also bring in someone proven. With every passing day we all are growing increasingly frustrated and worse than that, worried.
