Opinion: Three things to watch on transfer deadline day

As many fans will know, Birmingham City usually have fairly quiet transfer deadline days, most notably in the past few seasons.

This window it doesn’t look as though it will be much different either.

However, there are three things which I believe could happen on the last day of the window that could affect the club.

To start with, I have a feeling that there maybe some last minute interest in 19 year old Demarai Gray.

Now, at the moment the youngster is with the England under 20’s squad but what’s to stop there being interest in him.

In a previous article of ours which was displayed on the website and the official Blues site, manager Gary Rowett stated that it would take a whole lot for Dimi to leave but that doesn’t mean that there won’t be interest in him.

For me, I personally don’t think the interest will come from Leicester City, who reportedly last week were set to swoop for the teenager.

I believe that the interest may come from somewhere like Norwich City or perhaps even Bournemouth again.

Gray would suit the style of play that the Canaries like to play and he would be partnering up with former players Cameron Jerome and Nathan Redmond.

However, with neither side registering any interest in the prized asset, I am hopeful that there won’t be any last minute movement.

The second thing I think we should be looking out for are the possible outgoings on loan deals.

Although loan deals haven’t really been talked about, I think there may be one or two that could potentially happen tomorrow or over the coming weeks when the loan window opens.

The likes of Reece Brown, Viv Solomon-Otobar and Charlee Adams may all be handed the chance to go out on loan with first team chances limited but they may also be handed the chance to fight for their place and further impress Rowett.

If one of the listed players did move on, I wouldn’t be surprised if the team they moved to was Burton Albion. These outgoings are definitely one to keep an eye on.

Finally, the last thing I think Blues fans should be keeping an eye on in the potential incoming of a new defender.

Manager Rowett has continually expressed his desire to bring in another centre back this transfer window. But he has however also stated that he isn’t afraid to utilise the loan market should he have to go down that route.

Like with past deals over this busy summer, if something was to happen, I personally don’t believe we would here about it until around about an hour before it.

No names have been dropped anywhere so the potential incoming is a complete mystery to us all. We can all dream!
