Playing as a lone striker in a team set-up to be defensively organised can be like trying to sell meat to a vegan. Clayton Donaldson has been working tirelessly for the team, holding up play, working the channels and bringing others into play – but his finishing in front of goal has been severely lacking? until Saturday.

The Jamaican striker was given support in the shape of Che Adams and prospered as a result, scoring two goals and giving the Norwich City defence the run around. It was like the old Donaldson had returned.

Let`s not forget, the Don is 32 years-old. His fitness levels are immense and he is the typical ‘one-hundred-percent` type of player, but there is only so much a man can do on his own. Blues fans will see more performances like the one we witnessed on Saturday if he is given support in attack.

It was a bold move by Gary Rowett to move away from his usual stance and play two up front against a Norwich side heavily backed for promotion. But the outcome showed Blues fans what the team are capable of when they are given slightly more freedom.

But let`s not think Blues` attacking emphasis is all about Donaldson. Adams is having a positive impact and, with another striker expected to be signed today, Rowett will be inundated with options of a slightly better ilk.
