Opinion: Taming the Wolves is a must this weekend!

With Sunday’s game against local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers fast approaching, I thought it would only be right to argue why Blues really need to tame their local rivals in this crucial match.

As we all know, the vast majority of the Sky Bet Championship play the day before Blues and Wolves do and that is something that could play in Blues’ hands because they will know what they have to do.

Play-off rivals Cardiff City and Ipswich Town meet in one of the nine fixtures that is being played later on this afternoon, whilst Sheffield Wednesday face a tough trip to Nottingham Forest, who have just signed former Blues loanee Federico Macheda on loan until the end of the season.

A draw in the Cardiff game would be brilliant for Blues and if Forest could help us out as well by beating out of sorts Wednesday then that would be fantastic as well, but this is the championship and not everything goes the way you want it to unfortunately for us.

Blues haven’t won away from home since they thrashed Derby County 3-0 at the iPro stadium back in the middle of January and what a good place it would be to pick up maximum points on the road, your local rivals.

I think Kenny Jackett will have his side fired up for this game, as will Blues boss Gary Rowett, but I am hoping that everybody keeps a cool head in the game (from a Blues point of view that is!)

Rowett will play three in the middle of the park I think with former Wolves man David Davis being brought back into the starting XI and I think that could be what wins the game for us personally.

The home side have only lost twice in the last six games on their own soil and with the crowd behind them, they will have their sights firmly fixed on doing the double over Blues, but if we set up right and the 2,500 fans in the away end are in full voice then I am sure something will happen.

It’s not like we have been playing bad football lately but things just haven’t quite gone for us. I don’t understand how we can go from playing such positive football against Hull City to defending like school kids a few days later away at Blackburn Rovers! It just baffles me.

Personally, I really hope that we get something against Wolves and I really hope we get under their skin from the minute the whistle is sounded to start the match. Who doesn’t love a good derby day and what makes it even better is that it is live on Sky Sports.

It may sound strange but we seem to play better in front of the cameras and I don’t know why that is but I think we should all consider sending letters to Sky asking them if they can film our remaining 10 games!

Don’t get me wrong, if we don’t win tomorrow, it’s not the end of the world but every point counts and even if we pick up a draw and then we win our game in hand, who knows, we could all be looking back at this game and thinking what a valuable point it was!

Blues fans, will you be at the game or will you be watching it on TV? Let us know in the comment section down below!
