Opinion: Spector will be a Big Miss

Spector has been a wonderful servant to Birmingham City. He’s been a very loyal and committed player both on and off the pitch and this has been shown in his recent kind words via his interviews and his Twitter page. I suppose it has not come as a shock that he has left considering the constant speculation that he was headed to the USA. Considering he was born in the states, it seems only logical that he wishes to end his career here ultimately.

But will we miss him? I think it will be a huge miss. He really commanded the back four since he came and this has been in the form of vocals such as organising from corners which was a real weakness in the past, especially under Clark. Spector makes the players around him feel very comfortable as he takes the lead and this is seen in terms of many defence displays improving week by week. This kind of commander style will be the main thing that we will miss from Spector.

The other thing that we will miss is his heading ability. He often gets his head on the all whether that be from an opposition corner or from a goalkeeper. He always seems to be the one who commands those kinds of positions and he really does look like the real deal and that no one can get past him. I also thought that he may be well suited to Zola. I personally think that he brings the call out really well from the back and tries to invoke a passing game. This is just what Zola wants and so I am sorry to see him go because I really did think that he could benefit the team now we are under new management.

Nonetheless he has been a good player in many European fixtures and he’s been loyal. As a player we will miss him but Shotton has been superb in that role and I’m sure he’ll continue to be really influential. All the best to Spector as he starts his new role at his new club.
