According to various reports, Blues have today submitted a £4m bid to Premier League Crystal Palace for ex-Wolves winger Bakary Sako.

My immediate thoughts are that this would be a real statement of intent from Blues if they were to secure a deal for this player.

He has proven Championship experience and is certainly an upgrade on what we currently have in the wide areas at St Andrews and it`s clear that we need to strengthen there.

Not only does he have explosive pace and strength, but he also has a very good record in front of goal which is just what Blues need from a wide man.

Sako is also a left footed winger who can play on either side and is also an expert in going around his man when playing wide left.

We don`t really have that sort of option at present where a player can use his pace out wide to get to the byline and whip a cross in.

There’s no doubting that it would be a huge investment for Blues and it’s the most we would’ve paid for a player for a good number of years.

His recent injury troubles and lack of match action at Palace would add to that risk of signing the player but I think it’s a risk worth taking due to the quality he has.

There is also reported interest from a Championship rivals Derby County who would, no doubt, be able to offer Sako a better pay package but a move to Blues would see him straight away become a key player.

He has to question what move would be best for him in terms of his career. Personally, I think that he’d have more of an impact at Blues and could slot into the side with ease.

You only have to take a look at his previous record in the Championship where he scored 15 goals for Wolves where only goal difference prevented them from getting into the play-offs in 2015.

Seeing a player of Sako`s ability linked with Blues is really exciting for the fans and, if Gianfranco Zola could pull off a deal for him, then I don’t think too many of us would be disappointed.
