Birmingham City head into their Championship opener with plenty of optimism buzzing around the ground. After giving the Royals a royal smashing last year, many fans and possibly even the management will be hoping that Blues can do it again.

With plenty of new additions to contemplate when it comes to picking his starting XI against Reading, it is believed that Rowett already has his side in mind.

However, after much deliberation and consideration, my starting line up may seem a little different to what Rowett has been using during preseason .

In an earlier article on the site, Jack predicted his line up and I believe the majority of his choices are stone wall first choice players but there may be a surprise or two in tomorrows team.

Down below, I have listed who I would have in my starting XI as well as the substitutes.

GK- Kuszczak
RB- Caddis
CB- Spector
CB- Morrison
LB- Grounds
CM- Kieftenbeld
CM- Gleeson
CM- Davis
RW- Cotterill
LW- Gray
ST- Donaldson

Subs: Legzdins, Edgar, Hancox, Toral, Shinnie, Maghoma, Novak.

I have chosen to go with a 4-3-3 formation which is something that hasn’t been deployed through the preseason fixtures that Blues have taken part in but I think it could work effectively for us.

The bench that I have selected is a strong one but leaving the likes of Paul Robinson and Wes Thomas out of it was a difficult decision and I am not sure that manager Gary Rowett would take the same risk that I have.

Blues fans, what do you make of my predictions? Do you think I am right to have selected three central midfielders in a 4-3-3 formation? Or do you think Gary Rowett will stick with his usual 4-2-3-1 formation? Let us know in the comment section down below!
