The wait is nearly over. The new Sky Bet Championship season starts tomorrow as Birmingham City head to Portman Road to take on Ipswich Town in the opening fixture of the 2017/18 campaign.

Following what was a very narrow escape last season, former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp will be hoping that his Blues side can compete at the other end of the table this season.

However, with frustrations growing in the transfer market, with only three players signing for the club so far, many fans are starting to question the ambition of the board as the financial backing hasn’t yet come to light.

Earlier this week Blues saw a £4 million bid rejected for Bristol City pair Aden Flint and Joe Bryan, although Lee Johnson, manager of the Robins, has admitted to the press that Flint has now had his head turned.

Following those quotes, the Birmingham Mail reported that they believe Blues will go back in with another bid for Flint ahead of the Ipswich game but they are unsure whether a deal will be concluded before the deadline for the game.

With all that being said, here is my predicted line up based on the players that are currently available to Redknapp.

GK: Stockdale

RB: Nsue
CB: Roberts
CB: Morrison
LB: Grounds

RM: Davis
CM: Gardner
CM: Ndoye
LM: Maghoma

CF: Adams
ST: Donaldson

Substitutes: Kuszczak, Keita, Shotton, Kieftenbeld, Gleeson, Cotterill, Hale.

As you can see, all three of the new signings are in line to make their first league appearance for Blues in my opinion.

There is a place on the bench for want away defender Ryan Shotton who is still looking to secure a move to big spenders Middlesbrough.

And there is also a place in the match day 18 for outcast David Cotterill.

Blues fans, what do you make of the team that has been predicted? Would you change anything? Let us know in the comment section down below!

  • I think your team is exactly what Harry will pick though I dont think Hale will be on the bench. More likely Cogley or O Keefe.
