Birmingham City are preparing to take on League Two new boys Bristol Rovers tonight (11th August) in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

Manager Gary Rowett has already confirmed that the squad is fully fit and he has every payer to choose from heading into the game.

After these comments, I have chosen the team that I would send out against the Pirates tonight. Based on the performance of Saturday and the fact that it is a cup game as well, I have swapped a few players around.

I believe my starting XI could cause Rovers a fair few problems as Blues look to breeze into the second round of the cup which would mean that Rowett’s men would face seven games in the opening month of the new season.

Below is the side which I think Rowett will choose as well as the substitutes.

GK- Legzdins
RB- Caddis
CB- Robinson
CB- Morrison
LB- Hancox
CDM- Davis
CDM- Brown
RAM- Gray
CAM- Shinnie
LAM- Maghoma
ST- Novak

Subs: Kuszczak, Eardley, Spector, Gleeson, Donaldson, Cotterill, Toral.

I have changed eight of the starters from the Championship opener against Reading because I feel that there are still places up for grabs.

Personally, I believe that Rowett may leave a couple of the first team squad behind and bring through the youth, such as Reece Brown and Mitch Hancox.

I also believe that Lee Novak, Jacques Maghoma, David Davis, Andrew Shinnie, Paul Robinson and Adam Legzdins will all get a chance to play, even if it isn’t right from the get go.

Blues fans, what do you make of my predictions? Do you think I am right to change so many players or do you think it would be a risky move following on from what happened at Blyth last January? What would your starting XI be? Let us know in the comment section down below!
