On Friday night, Birmingham City fans were treated to their first win at St.Andrews since the 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers back on the 17th of October.

The win was far from pretty, and neither was the football lets be honest, but as many fans and pundits will say, a win is still a win.

Russell Slade said after the game that his side were very very unlucky not to come away with something from the game and for me I have to agree with him.

The penalty that was given just before half time was far from one and it is also arguable that the Bluebirds had the better of the chances, with the likes of Sammy Ameobi and Kenwyne Jones missing glorious chances in either half.

However, the saviour and super sub Paul Caddis stepped up to give take our points total up to five in what has been a fairly relentless festive week.

Below are the ratings that I would give each individual player as well as a short sentence on how I feel they performed.

Kuszczak 6 – His kicking is getting better which is always a good thing for a team who like to counter attack and he made one acrobatic save towards the dying stages of the game.

Eardley 5 – Unfair really to comment on his performance but when he was on the pitch I thought he played quite well.

Morrison 8 – A very close contender for Man of the Match after he produced one of his best defensive displays so far this season. He won everything in the air and instructed his fellow defenders very well.

Spector 7 – Like Morrison, Spector had a very good game! The American defender made some very good interceptions and I thought he played very well throughout.

Lowry 5 – Far from match fit but Gary Rowett needed to play him from the start. On his debut he struggled against Ameobi and eventually he needed to make way.

Gleeson 7 – Another good performance from the central defensive midfielder. Although his passes weren’t as decisive as they were on Tuesday night but he still broke play up fantastically.

Kieftenbeld 9 – By far the best player on the pitch. How on earth Sky didn’t spot his relentless work ethic I don’t know! As soon as he lost the ball, he won it back. He was charging into the box every time Blues went forward and he just keeps getting better.

Maghoma 8 – Pushing the team forward is becoming a speciality of Maghoma’s and he did it brilliantly against Cardiff. He was running off James Vaughan and constantly trying to make things happen.

Toral 7 – Very unlucky not to score in the second half but his break from the team showed as he tired towards the end of the game.

Gray 6 – Not the best game for the teenager but we have to remember he is only 19 and he has played over 270 minutes of football in the last six days so it was to be expected that his displays might dip.

Vaughan 7 – On his home debut, Vaughan looked like he was about to collapse as the final whistle went! The Birmingham fan chased everything and earned Blues the dubious penalty.

Substitutes:

Caddis 7 – Scored the controversial spot kick to seal the long awaited home win and played very well when he came on to make his first appearance in three games.

Halford 5 – Hard to comment on his contributions to the game as he was a late arrival but he stayed strong when the ball came towards him.

Davis 5 – Didn’t have the same impact that he usually has but he was there when we went forward and he tired to make things happen.
