On Saturday afternoon, Birmingham City welcomed Cardiff City to St.Andrews for the opening game of the new English Football League season.

Throughout the game, the Bluebirds enjoyed the majority of the possession and created the better chances, hitting the bar twice, once in either half, but despite that, Gary Rowett’s side could have snatched all three point.

The game, which ended 0-0, was full of end-to-end attacks, with Peter Whittingham pulling the strings for the visitors and Ryan Shotton being the commanding figure for Blues at the back.

Blues, who were slightly bullied in the first half, introduced 18-year-old Jack Storer in the second half and his slow effort almost won the game but unfortunately for the teenager, the keeper made a great save.

Down below are the ratings that I would give each individual player based on their performances during Saturdays game…

Kuszczak – 8

Spector – 7

Shotton – 9 and my Man of the Match.

Morrison – 7

Grounds – 7

Gleeson – 6

Davis – 6

Cotterill – 5

Fabbrini – 6

Maghoma – 7

Donaldson – 7

Substitutes: Brown (6), Storer (7), Tesche (N/A)
