Saturday’s result against an unbeaten Brighton and Hove Albion side will be one that is hard to swallow for most fans as Blues were narrowly edged out in a 2-1 loss.

Solly March, who we named in our Best of both: Five-a-side team this week, produced an outstanding performance throughout the game and gave Jonathan Grounds a tough time all afternoon.

However, Blues centre backs Jonathan Spector and Michael Morrison will feel hard done by for both goals as they lost their concentration for split seconds, in what was actually a solid game for the pair.

Going forward, wide men Jacques Maghoma and Demarai Gray offered little for Nicolai Brock-Madsen to feed off, but it was Maghoma’s shot which lead to the equalising goal, which was scored by the impressive Jon Toral.

Down below are the player ratings that I would give each individual following their performances in Saturday’s game, as well as a short sentence on how they did overall.

Kuszczak 6- Pulled off some good saves throughout the game but was let down by his defence for both goals.

Caddis 4- Possibly his worst game of the season. Lost the ball to easily and looked poor in defence and attack. Could be worth giving Neil Eardley a chance against Huddersfield Town.

Morrison 7- Fairly solid and was quick to admit that Blues lost to a very good Albion side.

Spector 7- Like Morrison, a fairly solid performance but his poor clearance led to the one of the goals.

Grounds 4- Similar to Caddis, looked poor going forward and at the back. Had a torrid time against March who was dangerous throughout.

Kieftenbeld 7- Strong in the centre of the park and looked stable during the game.

Gleeson 6- Average performance but looked tired. Could be time to give him a rest?

Maghoma 5- Shot led to the goal but other than that, was shut down all the time and offered little throughout the game.

Toral 7- My Man of the Match. Looked good going forward. Scored a good rebound header and was very unlucky not to find the corner with his curling effort in the first half.

Gray 5- Had a shot in the second half but looked frustrated during the game and was rightly taken off with around 10 minutes to go.

Brock-Madsen 6- Held the ball up well, ran with it encouragingly but just couldn’t find spaces for shots, which is something he needs to improve on.

Subs:

Davis 7- Very good off the bench and could have easily snatched a point for us at the end but for a fantastic save from David Stockdale. Could have been MotM!

Vaughan 5- Looked promising and snatched at a few chances but with more training behind him he will get there.

Solomon-Otabor 4- Had little time to make an impact of the game and didn’t really have much of the ball.

Blues fans, do you agree with my MotM? Were you at the game? What did you make of our overall performance? Let us know in the comment section down below!
