Birmingham City failed to break their duck when they went to Ewood Park on Tuesday night as they failed to keep yet another clean sheet against Blackburn Rovers.

Two goals in three minutes from Tony Watt and Danny Graham gave the hosts full control of the Sky Bet Championship fixture and it also gave Paul Lambert his fourth straight league win at home.

The goals both came in the first half. As the game approached 20 minutes, the home side pumped the ball into the box and Watt was able to turn with the ball at his feet at stab home under Blues keeper Tomasz Kuszczak.

Moments later and Blues should have had a penalty. The ball found Clayton Donaldson in the box and as he turned away, the Jamaican forward was clearly brought down but the referee played on.

From that incident, Lambert’s side raced up the other end of the pitch and after Paul Robinson went to ground far too early, Graham was able to round the former West Bromwich Albion defender and calmly slot his effort past Kuszczak.

Blues did improve in the second half with Jonathan Grounds and substitute Diego Fabbrini both going close but ultimately, Rowett’s play-off chasing Blues just could get a foothold in the game.

After the match I spoke to Vital Birmingham writer Luke Turner who was in attendance to witness the poor showing from Blues and I managed to grab his player ratings off him.

Kuszczak: 6.

Caddis: 5.

Morrison: 4.

Robinson: 6.

Grounds: 5.

Gleeson: 6.

Kieftenbeld: 4.

Cotterill: 4.

Toral: 5.

Maghoma: 5.

Donaldson: 5.

Substitutes:

Fabbrini: 8 and Man of the Match.

Buckley: 4.

Solomon-Otabor: N/A.
