Opinion On Koby Arthur

At the Blues, we have always had the idea to bring players through from the youth ranks. Butland and Redmond were the prime examples of what could be achieved by sticking with the nurture of youth players.

In recent times, loaning of younger players such as Macheda, Lingard, Blackett and Thorpe, has led to stinted experiences for many young players at the Blues. A terrible legacy of the Clark era.

However, it is make or break time now for one young man in particular; Koby Arthur.

Young players need experience playing at a lower level so that they can gain confidence as well as fitness before intenstiy is increased at a higher level. It is the simple principle of guiding a successful young player.

He has made 8 appearances with Cheltenham, 6 as substitute, and 6 for Lincoln, 4 being as a substitute.

This is nowhere near enough experience and as he is getting older, the harder it will be for him to progress into the first team side. I have notices with Arthur that despite a physical frame, he often is too weak upon shielding the ball in midfield. This comes with time and coaching, but it is also worrying at this stage, the inability to keep posession.

Despite this, he has the attributes to be strong in the future, and he is certainly one to watch. But I believe if he doesn’t go out on loan this year, it will be a massive step back for him.
