Opinion. Monk Needs A New Way Forward

With our Manager receiving months of deserved praise from all quarters of the footballing world, time is now right for him to change. By that I mean in the way he sets up the formation and personnel at his disposal.

In the first half of the season, he had no choice but to play within the confines of his limited squad and it has been a success, but with the return of Vassell and the addition of Mbati, plus next months probable bonus of David Davis – change is needed.

Since Christmas, we have looked a little ‘spent’ in the games with predictable formations and set pieces resulting in a laboured effort to achieve a three-pointer.

The midfield of the Gardners and Keifenbeld has never had great creation but now it is very below par in respect of any ideas. Maghoma and Jota look a shadow of what we have seen during the first half of the season and without the inform Adams and the gutsy Juke, we would be struggling. New signing Mbati will hopefully create some midfield vision with Vassell capitalising on some decent passes to use his electric pace. At present we are simply stale.

My hope is that the next 8/9 days Garry Monk will create a new ‘look’ with pace up front the aim. Adams and Vassell might be the way to go, with Juke given a little breather on the bench.

Swansea are no cloggers, they try to play football, so this game is the perfect opportunity to change the system.

My last point is the poor form of Maxim Colin who sadly needs a rest. So why not try the strong athletic Harding? We need to change the thinking now and I am sure this hasn’t gone unnoticed by our astute manager.
