Opinion: Kozak, Iwobi or Thomas

We all knew it would happen, didn`t we?! Clayton Donaldson plays 60-odd consecutive games then goes on international duty and returns injured. Sods law, it`s called. Or you could say, typical Blues.

Without ‘The Don`, Blues carry as much threat as a plastic knife. So, Gary Rowett is desperately looking for a striker and I don`t think anyone would argue that it`s needed.

Alex Iwobi, Arsenal`s young Nigerian international, has been mentioned. Without knowing much about him, from what I`ve read and heard, he sounds like a raw, promising youngster. He would be my preferred choice, particularly as the other name bandied about is Aston Villa`s Libor Kozak.

It`s evident to me that Blues` strike force requires an injection of pace, an attribute Kozak does not possess. The six-foot-four Czech is very Zigic-like and has been thrown on the scrapheap at Villa Park.

Recalling Wes Thomas wouldn`t be a bad option either. The 28 year-old is out on loan at Swindon Town and has recently returned from an injury lay-off. Thomas is not blessed with natural footballing ability, but his pace (something Blues severely lack) and work rate makes him a threat.

With Donaldson expected to be side lined for at least six weeks and with Nicolai Brock-Madsen still cutting his teeth in England, a centre forward is needed before the loan window slams shut on Thursday.
