Luke Turner picks out a final key player of the season for this weekends game…

Blues play their final game of the season on Saturday as they head to Cardiff to face Russell Slade`s Bluebirds.

I am hoping that Gary Rowett will give an opportunity to a couple of youngsters to show what they can do and give them that all important experience of first team football.

So, this week the key player who could have a big say in whether or not we end the season with three points is Viv Solomon-Otabor.

We have seen glimpses of what the 20-year-old can do but he hasn’t been used as much in recent weeks as some people would’ve thought.

When he has played, he looks to be seriously lacking in confidence and tends to take the easy option of passing backwards or looking to move the ball on as quickly as possible.

But, there have been times when he looks unplayable. His magnificent solo goal at Fulham showed us how much talent he has to go with his blistering pace.

If we can get the ball out wide to Solomon-Otabor, then hopefully he will be encouraged to run at his full back and take him on.

He certainly has the ability to do so, it’s just a case of building that confidence up. That will only come with experience and, so, the game on Saturday could allow him to express himself and begin to fulfil that potential.

The game will no doubt have that typical end of season feel to it but hopefully Viv can light it up with his skill and pace down the wing.

Next season could be a big year for him so what better way for him to get ready for that by putting in a performance this weekend that shows us why Rowett rates him so highly.
