As frustration grows amongst Birmingham City fans, there is one shining light that may suggest things aren’t that far away from turning round.

Even though you may be thinking one player surely can’t turn round the fortunes of the entire team, in this case, we could all be wrong.

On Saturday afternoon, Blues extended their winless run to nine, a number that nobody is happy with, but the performance of Kerim Frei was one that got fans talking and got tails wagging so to speak.

With some good runs with the ball and without the ball, Frei was always looking to get on the front foot and make things happen and that is something that I am looking forward to seeing more of.

Tomorrow night, the 23-year-old will get his first taste of playing at St.Andrews as a Birmingham City player and if he can excite the crowd early on then that may give the whole team a lift which would be a positive in its own rights.

Blues are in desperate need of a win as there season continues to fizzle out following the appointment of Zola in December and with pressure growing, the Italian manager will be hoping that Frei can produce some pieces of magic when Blues take on Reading.

The Royals are currently sitting in third place in the Championship and will once again prove to be another stern test for Zola’s men but with things slowly starting to fall into place, could there be a shock on the cards? Maybe!

Frei signed for Blues two weeks ago for a fee believed to be around £2.2 million and he has certainly tried to hit the ground running and if he continues to play with the same enthusiasm that he showed on Saturday afternoon then I have no doubts that he can be the man to lead us to our first victory under Zola.

Blues fans, do you agree that Kerim Frei could be the man to inspire us to our first win under Gianfranco Zola? Let us know in the comment section down below!
