Opinion: Keeping the winning formula

Over the past 11 games in the Sky Bet Championship, it has been clear to see that the key to our success has been teamwork, structured discipline, hard work and commitment.

The topic of conversation for today is keeping the winning mentality going in the squad and after it was suggested to me by a fan of the site I thought it would only be right to discuss the topic in length.

Birmingham City as a club have turned things around dramatically over the past two years and the transformation has been largely down to the appointment of Gary Rowett back in October 2014.

When the former Blues defender was appointed as the new manager of the club he quickly went about installing a new ethos and that was to make sure the players worked for each other and not just as individual.

That ethos is still clear for everyone to see this season and if the players continue to think along the same lines as the manager then myself and the fan who suggested this topic for discussion can see Blues finishing in the top six.

Changing a winning formula could come back to haunt Mr.Rowett and personally I think bringing Diego Fabbrini back to the club might prove to be a mistake because there is a cemented style of play at the club at the moment and the little Italian has his own way of playing that might not suit us.

The passion that each individual shows for the club is clear to see at the end of each game, especially if we have lost. You can see the hurt in their eyes when we suffer a defeat like we did at the weekend and even though it doesn`t happen often, it is devastating for all to see when it does.

Personally, for me, the defeat against Sheffield Wednesday was one of the most disappointing all season because we dominated for large parts of the game and they scored with quite possibly their only two meaningful games in the second half.

Blues have only lost two games in their last 11 in the league, both of those came against Sheffield Wednesday, but in other matches against play-off rivals like Derby County, Brentford and Ipswich Town, the squad has shown just how capable they are of getting into that position and possibly even staying there as well.

Blues fans, do you agree that we need to keep the winning mentality to keep moving forward as a club? How big was the defeat at the weekend to our season? Let us know in the comment section down below!
