Losing Clayton Donaldson to injury was a massive blow to us and trying to replace him is almost impossible.

But, with the loan signing of Brummie boy James Vaughan, I think Gary Rowett made an excellent call of judgement and Vaughan has, in turn, repaid Rowett`s trust.

Having been limited to playing time at Huddersfield due to injury and then only joining Blues on a months loan, Vaughan could be forgiven for looking a bit rusty.

However, in his four Blues appearances so far, the striker has looked far from a player who had only played in four Championship matches this season prior to joining us.

For me, Vaughan looks like a player trying to prove a point. His work rate and endeavour is second to none and you can see in the way he plays how much he loves the Blues.

He also doesn’t seem fazed by the fact that he is filling the shoes of Donaldson who, we all know, is crucial to what we do.

In the past two games, in particular the first half at Preston, a lot of balls were lumped up to Vaughan with the striker having to make something out of nothing.

To his credit, he has won flick ons and held the ball up well for his team mates. I was particularly impressed with the way he held off Cardiff`s Bruno Manga who isn’t short of physicality.

Up to now, the only downfall he has had has been getting into space to allow himself a clear cut opportunity. His snapshot on Friday against Cardiff won the dubious penalty but I think we will really see James Vaughan at his best when he gets in front of goal.

With Donaldson not too far off returning and Vaughan`s loan soon to be expiring, the loanee may not get his much wanted Blues goal.

However, I think we can all see from his short time so far at Blues, that Vaughan is a very good replacement for Donaldson.

Of course, he isn’t a mirror alternative to Donaldson but he isn’t far off. He works his socks off, runs himself into the ground and brings others into play.

I really do think that Rowett should do all he can to try and sign Vaughan on a permanent deal. And, if that’s not possible then another loan won’t do any harm.

The striker, I am sure, would love to return to St.Andrews and play for his beloved Blues again following the conclusion of this current loan period.

Once Donaldson is fully fit, Vaughan would be likely to play second fiddle to him but if Clayton were to get injured again or if the team needed a bit of freshness added to it, then Vaughan is the man to turn to.

If Huddersfield continue to struggle down the wrong end of the Championship table then they may be reluctant to allow Vaughan another move.

But, with Blues boss Rowett already hinting that funds could be available in January, hopefully some sort of agreement can be reached for the signing of Vaughan.

Blues fans, do you agree that the club should go out and sign James Vaughan on a permanent deal or another loan? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
