Another season opener, another disappointing day for the travelling bluenoses.

We`ve never started fast in the league over recent years, but Saturday`s display at Portman Road was a particularly drab affair.

Ipswich Town are a team short of investment and any real top quality, but Blues looked very inept and in dire need of a creative spark.

We all knew that Blues would need a striker and a winger, and we weren`t wrong. Unfortunately Clayton Donaldson is simply not good enough, and this highlights the need of someone like Hull City striker Abel Hernandez.

Hull`s record signing was not up to standard in the Premier League, and he has been transfer listed for the majority of the summer.

Due to another disappointing season in the Premier League it is unlikely he would fetch the £10m price tag Hull splashed on him a few years ago.

I think Blues would benefit from Hernandez if they consider solely his Championship record, when he hit 20 goals two seasons ago.

We are crying out for a proven striker at this level if we are seriously going to challenge at the right end of the table.

Hernandez often likes to have another striker playing off him, and I feel Che Adams would suit that role well with the pace he possesses.

Saturday showed that the Blues board will have to dig a little deeper into their pockets if they are ambitious.

With league matches now coming thick and fast, we need to inject the squad with some goals, and I think Hull might be willing to let Hernandez go for less than they got him.

Let us know your thoughts on Abel Hernandez (or any other potential replacement) in the comments below!

  • I’m with you here John, I didn’t know he had been transfer listed but obviously there were rumours that he was available and wanting to leave so maybe this is where Tom is coming from.

  • Away from that though, another great piece of writing Tom. I hope the editor is taking note of the work that you are doing and gets you signing up because your work has been good to read so far. Long may it continue.

  • The Bristols are having a laugh with Harry keep shotton and go for Hernandez ….we have been dodging the issue of a striker for too long now , strikers are born come on they who dare ….let you entertain us …KRO…

  • I was down, very dejected yesterday, still am with regard to the performance and result. We have been crying out all Summer that we needed at least one new striker and ideally two plus a creative attacking winger. We went into this game without any of those additions and as a result once again we are back to playing inept football.Donaldson is no longer up to the task,he has never been a prolific goalscorer and it’s extremely unlikely he will be one this time around. We can’t blame him,he has been good for this club for several seasons when the chips were down,a likeable person who is ageing, It’s not panic stations yet however it soon could be if we have a sequence of these dire performances. The manager will have by now heard our voices, heard our concerns and in a way I am sorry for him too,he has been trying however I do feel he let Keane slip through his fingers and he would have brought goals. So another week begins, another week of speculation as this article demonstrates.I’m not even going to mention the players name, what’s the point, until the manager makes an offer why bother with press rumour.TTA please act now, release funds and allow the manager to spend,if you don’t he will walk. No disrespect intended to to the author of this article Tom,my frustration is showing. KRO

  • A point I want to raise, the manager has said he does not do the negotiating, the director of football Vertere does it. Maybe that’s the issue ? Harry has been in this game all of his life, perhaps it’s time he did the negotiating,he has a way with words that might bring potential deals into actual signings, just a thought,I guess none of us really knows what’s happening behind the scenes.
Ohio have you had any feedback yet ? KRO

  • Le Hane. Feedback you ask. I think you should read my earlier comments under Three Pointer Vs Ipswich. Have gone as far as I dare. One of the main issues is that Harry doesn’t normally go through agents-hence Vetere. Therefore cul-de-sac comes to mind.

  • We knew we needed strikers before the start of the transfer window. We have cleared the decks and haven’t bought in any replacements. Why are we looking at defenders when its up top we need strengthening? Hernandez would be a great signing but I cannot see us stumping up the eight or nine million which Hull are likely to want. Like it or not these are the current market prices. If you cannot pay these prices the only other options are loaning a striker and hoping he does a Tammy Abraham or trying to sign a gem from abroad.
