It was reported last night that Birmingham City were weighing up a move for Hull City midfielder Tom Huddlestone.

Although the 30-year-old would command a high wage, he supposedly has a £2m release clause that would make his signing a bargain for someone of his quality.

I’ve seen a few people mention the fact that we’re well-stocked in the midfield department and that is a fair point.

But Blues don’t have that technically gifted player who can control and dominate a midfield in the Championship.

Huddlestone is a man that would straight away come in and make his mark. The ability he has on the ball would give Blues a much better balance when it comes to winning that midfield battle.

We’ve got plenty of grit and determination in the centre of the park but it’s clear that we lack someone that barely lets a pass go to waste.

Craig Gardner is someone I expect will step up and take the game by its horns next season but he doesn`t possess the quality on the ball that Huddlestone does.

Stephen Gleeson and Robert Tesche are probably the two that focus their game more on getting control of the ball and moving it on, but Huddlestone is a class above.

The numerous seasons he’s played as a regular in the Premier League prove that and he’s also been capped at international level with England.

If Blues are going to compete at the top end of the league next season, they need players that can make a difference and by bringing in someone like Huddlestone, we would immediately gain an advantage.

He’s a man that can see a pass and create something out of nothing. His range of passing puts him up there as one of the best in the league and for that, he’s certainly a player Harry Redknapp should be looking to bring in.
