It is a well known fact that when one team goes in front in a football game that the other side is likely to chase a result.

Well, that is exactly what happened with Birmingham City on Saturday when they lost for the first time on the road in nine games.

Two goals in two minutes from recently relegated side Hull City meant that Gary Rowett’s side slipped down to sixth in the league, a position which many Blues fans would have been very happy with this time last year.

But, as things stand, we all seem to be a little disappointed due to the high quality of football we are playing.

Against, lets face it, a Premier League side, Blues seemed to be sort of ‘shot-shy’ as Rowett put it himself. But, I think following the result, opposition manager and former Blues boss, Steve Bruce, has given away one of the best tactics in the division and one that has been working week in week out on the road.

In the majority of the games that Blues have played on the road this season, they have gone a goal up which forces the home side into chasing the game down and leaving inviting gaps at the back. Gaps which Blues often capitalise on.

However, for the first time nine away league matches, the Tigers being the ninth game, Blues conceded the first goal which caused them to be very open at the back.

The second goal for Hull, the game changer, came just two minutes later and effectively killed off any threat from Blues, which is something that fans don’t often say now.

With Hull scoring the first goal, it meant that Blues were chasing the game and the home side were able to sit in and defend their lead and not leave any gaps for Blues to exploit.

By being able to do this, I think Steve Bruce has unearthed what could be one of the biggest hidden gems in the league.

So far this season, a second goal has more than often come for Blues on their travels when they have been one up and that has always suited their style of play, but being two goals down, we were never going to be in control and we were always going to struggle.

For me, if every home team that we play watches the Hull City game as an example, their manager will always push the team to go ahead and get the first goal so that it exploits one of the only weaknesses that Rowett’s side has.

Blues fans, do you think I am right? Do you agree that Hull City have highlighted one of the only weaknesses that Blues have? Let us know in the comment section down below!
