A talisman for Birmingham City over the past 18 months has been without a doubt Clayton Donaldson but something isn’t quite right with him at the moment.

In November, Donaldson won his first international cap, and scored his first international goal, but it came at a great expense to him and Blues.

The last league goal that the Jamaican forward scored for the Blues was on the 7th of November in an emphatic 5-2 win away at Fulham and despite his injuries, fans would have expected Donaldson to instantly come back into the goals upon his return.

However, that is something that hasn’t happened as of yet and I for one am becoming slightly concerned. Yes, there is no doubt that the goals will come back for the 31 year old striker, but when?

I think we could see Donaldson, also nicknamed ‘The Don’, return to the scoresheet this weekend in what is set to be a crucial game in the race for a play-off spot.

He has been getting into the right positions and I think it is only going to take one goal for him to get going again.

When we played against Ipswich Town, he was very unlucky not to score in the first half when he was inches away from a left wing cross and if he keeps gambling on those sort of balls then he is bound to get a goal and I am sure he wouldn’t mind if he got a bit of extra luck in the box.

He was involved in the build up to the first goal in the game against the Tractor Boys and barring a brilliant save from the Town goalie, he would have registered for Gary Rowett’s side on the day.

I believe that Donaldson could have a bit of cult hero Nikola Zigic in him because he could turn into a striker who scores important goals for us in future games.

Zigic was often slated for his work rate, something which Donaldson clearly doesn’t lack, but he was hailed for his ability to score important goals for the Blues, most notably against the likes of Aston Villa, Arsenal and Bolton Wanderers.

A goal at the weekend for Donaldson could prove to be a very important one come the end of the season and I would love to see what a goal would do for his confidence.

It is going to be a tough game this weekend, but as Maikel Kieftenbeld and Jacques Maghoma said, we owe Sheffield Wednesday a tough game.

Blues fans look set to turn out in numbers at the weekend with a rumoured 20,000 plus expected inside St.Andrews, alongside the 3,100 Wednesday fans so we can hopefully expect a buoyant display from Rowett’s Blue and White army!
