Before I start, I already know what everyone is saying in the back of their minds…why on earth is he predicting the table when we have over a month left until anyone kicks a ball in the league yet.

Well, with the majority of teams in the division heading back into preseason training this week with many expected to be hitting the grass in the next couple of days, I thought it would be a good idea to share how I feel the season will pan out for the 2016/17 campaign.

Coming into the division from the Premier League this year we have Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Norwich City, all of which have far superior budgets compared to a fair few other names in the Championship, ourselves included, but that shouldn’t rule out a few shocks along the way though.

Also coming into the league this season are the likes of Burton Albion, Wigan Athletic and Barnsley who have all been promoted from League One, and it’s fair to say, they will all be there next season based on merit and hard work.

Like most seasons, it is always going to be difficult to predict who will finish where in the league table because you never know what is going to happen in football, but based on my own honest opinions, my predictions are listed down below.

1. Newcastle United
2. Derby County
3. Norwich City
4. Sheffield Wednesday
5. Aston Villa
6. Blackburn Rovers
7. Bristol City
8. Birmingham City
9. Brighton and Hove Albion
10. Cardiff City
11. Leeds United
12. Ipswich Town
13. Barnsley
14. Reading
15. Nottingham Forest
16. Wolverhampton Wanderers
17. Brentford
18. Huddersfield Town
19. Queens Park Rangers
20. Wigan Athletic
21. Preston North End
22. Rotherham United
23. Fulham
24. Burton Albion

As you can see from my predictions above, I have backed relegated side Newcastle to go straight back into the Premier League by winning the division and I also believe that the other two relegated sides, Norwich and Villa, will make it into the play-offs, the Canaries more convincingly than our local rivals I may add.

Down the other end of the table, I have predicted that recently promoted side Burton Albion will finish bottom of the division for the upcoming campaign, and I think they will be joined in relegation by Fulham and Rotherham United who have both been flirting with the drop for the past season or two.

Unfortunately, I can’t see Blues reaching the play-offs next season, although I do think that we will only miss out on one of the four spots on the last day of the season.

Blues fans, what do you make of the predictions that have been made? Who do you think will win the league, reach the play-offs and get relegated next season? Let us know in the comment section down below!
