Opinion: Board need to put their money where their mouth is with their ambitions for new boss

|

Well, I suppose this goes to show the level of ambition that the board are looking to show when it comes to the new boss. The only question now, is will they make the right decision?

After the news came out on Monday regarding Pep Clotet’s imminent departure from the club, there has been plenty of chat regarding who is going to jump in the hot seat moving forward, with the Blues fans having their say on what direction the club need to take in their eyes.

Now, Blues journalist Brian Dick has given fans an update on what the club are apparently looking for when it comes to the new man in charge, saying that it “seems like they’re focusing on someone with experience and maybe the odd promotion on their CV”.

But I want to go back to what I said at the beginning, about the ambition that they are showing when it comes to their appointment.

I must say, that if these reports are true, then it’s a very admirable stance to take from the board, and makes more sense than appointing someone like Clotet for instance who is still relatively raw when it comes to their managerial career.

If the board are to go after such an ambitious target like that, then it is imperative that the club match that ambition with spending. If you go back and look at how much money various owners in the past have spent, it doesn’t quite scream of ambition for a team that wants to have a serious crack at promotion.

Do you have faith in the board to back the new manager with sufficient money?

Yes

No

That has to change when the new regime comes in, otherwise we’re essentially asking a Formula One driver to get from Birmingham to London in a battered old MG Rover, the tools don’t quite match up to the standards of the man using them.

I’m pretty sure I just butchered that analogy, but hopefully you know where I’m coming from.

What about you? Do you think that the board need to match their ambition with sufficient finances as well when it comes to the new appointment?

birmingham need a young vibrant manager who is hungry for success NOT old hasbeens. Ian bower i think fits the bill or someone like him!!

    • Mike says:

I would have Bowyer in a heartbeat BUT if the board really want promotion like him or hate him then Warnock is the ONLY contender.
Proven with 8 promotions already !!
Need 30 mill in the team immediatly also.

Just one huge problem with investing nowadays….FFP, you know? that thing that’s been a thorn in our side the last couple of seasons?, even if we sell Jude for £30 million a huge Chunk of that will have to go towards the running of the club especially after the problems Coronavirus has caused. There was a rumour that the EFL were going to scrap ffp for the coming season but until that happens it will be difficult for the owners to invest any amount of money on players.

I can just see Warnock being happy to have Dong camped in the training ground keeping an eye on him,

To a large extent for me, the appointment of ANOTHER manager is somewhat irrelevant.
The first appointment the owners should make, is a new C E O.
The one constant throughout all of these managerial ins and outs, FFP breaches, etc, etc, has been Ren.
Until the owners replace him and appoint a CEO who allows a manager to manage, then it doesn’t really matter too much.
I suppose it could be argued that a more submissive personality, simular to how Clotet appeared to be, would be less destructive than a manager who stands up to Ren i.e. Monk.
I’ll never forgive Ren, for dismissing Monk, I really felt we were on the verge of achieving what the owner’s say is their objective, promotion..
Anyway, as I’ve said, continue with Ren and we’ll probably be in the same position in 12 months time, looking for yet another new manager.
Ren less, my choice would be Laudrup, yes, I know, he’s been away from British football for 4 years, but he didn’t do that bad of a job, at an unfashionable club like Swansea, plus he plays the attractive, attacking football our owner’s seem to crave.
I would give him a go over Warnock, only because he would appear to have greater longevity, Warnock withdrew from Cardiff, after their relegation, stating tiredness and that he’d done all he could for them.
Blues is as big a job, if not bigger, especially if Ren is STILL CEO.
I really hope the owner’s make the right call on both counts.

Aliou cisse knows the club plays attacking football likes a dynamic formation 4-3-1-2 done extremely well with Senegal. So would be a good shout out for the job.

    KRO

  • WayCoolBlue says:

Warnock should be retiring at 71 not taking on another job no thanks. What about Karl Robinson from Oxford he is doing an amazing job look at the style of football player movement is doing that with freebies. What could you do with a few million behind him?
