Opinion: Blues Must Tread Water

If signing a player in the transfer window is like ‘pulling a girl in a nightclub`, then getting a point at Middlesbrough when your side are out of form must be like finding out that girl is a millionaire.

When the chips are down, it is vital to get back to what you are good at. Blues were tight and compact at the Riverside and well worthy of a point. But on another day, all three would have been in the bag as I cannot imagine Michael Morrison missing many sitters like that.

It was the start of a big week for Blues. The Cardiff game at St. Andrew`s on Friday night marks their third game in six days, including a trip to Preston tomorrow.

Following that is a Boxing Day trip to Sheffield Wednesday and a home fixture against MK Dons. If Blues can win two of their four games leading up to the end of 2015, they will be standing in good stead with reinforcements to come in the January transfer window.

Rowett said that the aim is to ‘have something to play for with five or six games to go`. Despite Blues` slide down the league in recent weeks, being two points off the play-off places after 20 games would have been dream boat stuff if offered to us before a ball had been kicked.

The big test for Rowett and the players is finding some re-invigoration for the second half of the season. Blues are a side always capable of mounting a decent unbeaten run, but also capable of a winless run.

We have some massive games on the horizon starting at Deepdale tomorrow.
