As it stands, Birmingham City head into the game against Derby County this weekend very much the underdogs, with former manager Gary Rowett looking to get one over on his old team, as he did in front of the St.Andrew’s faithful at the back end of last season.

Following Saturday’s lacklustre performance against Preston North End which saw Harry Redknapp relieved of his duties after just eight games of the new season, Caretaker boss Lee Carsley needs to address one area where Blues have been lacking this season.

Strikers are often something which Blues have been lacking and since the time when Marlon King and Chris Wood donned the royal blue and white shirt, Blues have struggled to find a goal scorer than can comfortably hit 15/20 goals a season.

Clayton Donaldson gave it his best shot during his time with the club, as did Lukas Jutkiewicz last season, but with the young attackers that Blues have at their disposal at the moment, there is one that catches the eye in particularly.

No, it isn’t Che Adams. He is a guaranteed starter when he is fit and he catches the eye almost every week when he plays.

For me, Isaac Vassell is somebody who needs to start this weekend.

Granted, it has not been made clear yet whether his hamstring is fully repaired but after making a cameo appearance last weekend, you would like to think that everything is now okay.

The former Luton Town striker is a player that can excite fans and he is somebody that not many teams know much about so you would be able to class his as an unknown quantity.

For me, if Blues want to win the game against Derby this weekend, Vassell is a player that must start, whether that is alongside another one of our strikers or just off one of them.

  • Your right Tom they should also watch the other Vassell at Blackpool and sign him on a precontractal contract if deemed good enough …

  • For me I would definitely start with vassal
He is so fast going forward. And he has earned a start for his efforts. Up the blues.

  • In normal circumstances this would have been a very good point. However having taken the lead we really did need the three. After 9 games ad five points gained this season is becoming torture. We are in an early scrap for survival and the next two matches must provide at least three points otherwise going into the break with eleven played and meagre points will have an almost Herculean task which frankly I cannot see us getting. As I said today’s point was decent but look around us at Burton,Brentford etc and to get above them in the league is our challenge. Far cry I know from the wildly heady days of the summer when we all thought we would be challenging the likes of Villa etc.
