Opinion: Blues are operating at 50%, and are at risk of undoing all their hard work

|

So, what did we learn from last night?

Well, we learned that when we put our minds to it, we can defend incredibly well and if we can hold out for 80 minutes against a side that’s challenging for Europe in the division above us, then we really can achieve anything if we put our minds to it.

It’s a good starting point, but now it’s all about taking the next step.

Pep Clotet has spoken in the past about his desire to go for three points in games instead of one, and whilst there weren’t any points on offer in this match, you can swap in the ideas of wins and draws instead.

However, it was pretty clear last night that we weren’t playing to win the game. When you take a look at the statistics; 746 Leicester passes compared to our 231, 76.6% possession against 23.4% and 12 shots to 8 shows that we were playing for the draw and possibly stealing it on penalties.

Do the Blues need to adapt their style of play going forward?

Yes

No

Clotet deserves some credit for the fact that he has got us to a state where we can grind out results based on our long unbeaten run that we were on, but with the majority of them being draws, it can get a little bit frustrating at times if they don’t turn into wins.

This goes back to what I said the other day about stagnating, at the moment we’re treading water but we need to start taking that step forward and turning these draws into wins. Whilst we don’t necessarily need the points desperately now, it’s all about getting things ready for next season.

Show us a little bit more attacking prowess, and then use these draws as something to fall back on if we have to.

Great defensive display but you have too marry it with the attack element and thats where we have fell down especially this season but you need the players and above all the mentality to do it. Thought Dean and Clarke Salter were excellent last night much better than with Roberts at the back

Do you have a clue what you are on about?
We were playing the 3rd best side in the country, away from home.
We might have had a couple of goals with a bit of luck in the first half but were outplayed by, as I say, the 3rd best side in the country. Big shock.
Anyway, as you are a tactical genius, just tell us what we are supposed to do. If I remember correctly this site slagged off Clotet when he tried to play more expansive football at the start of the season and we kept losing as a result, but now you want him to do the same, no doubt so you can slag him off in some other dumb article.

As Pep keeps telling us “I am the Head Coach” and have no control over who we recruit. I doubt he has much control over how we play either. The puppet masters just pull the strings.

Pep’s job is head coach. He as nothing to do with players contracts or which players we sign he identify’s a position he wants he will then get a list of available players and he will select from that list the player he believe fits.
The rest is down to the board.

This is how most clubs are run these days it’s nothing new it’s nothing different ore out of the ordinary.
