The agony for Birmingham City fans continue as we see our club and owners losing out on players because they’re unwilling to keep up with modern football and spending money for players. In light of the recent players that we have seen to miss out on; they all appear to be strikers. so I thought, considering I watch a lot of youth football, it would be good to see who we can get on loan at a cheaper price. A price that our club is willing to pay. I must make the point that these are not rumoured, it is just what I personally would like to see.

The first forward that I would recommend to loan is Chuba Akpom. I think most of the readers will be familiar with Chuba as he was on loan at Hull City last year and contributed to their successful season. He is back at Arsenal now and showing his class in their pre-season tour of America. However, instead of looking at his stats for other clubs or how well he fits in at Arsenal. I have looked at if he would improve our current squad and it is a certain yes. He is the most suitable young player that I can think of. This is because we like to play out wide and attack from the flanks rather from centrally. Hull also did this and Chuba’s ability to make those late runs into the six yard box became his trade mark at the Yorkshire based club. Donaldson scores a lot of goals by being in the right place at the right time and Akpom possesses this same presence. His pace can also cause the opposition problems, even more so than Donaldson who was our MVP last season so it’s no easy task to be compared with him.

The second forward that I have shortlisted is Dom Solanke. He is an England U21 international playing for Chelsea. Under the Jose era at Chelsea, a lot of their youth players were shipped out on loan and Dom was one of these. He ended up at Vitesse where he scored an impressive 7 goals in 25 appearances; a lot of these were substitute appearances and he was their 3rd top goalscorer. Every time I see him play, I am very impressed. I would love Dom to come to the Blues’ over anyone. He has the power to shrug off most defenders; the pace to get beyond them and then the composure to slot the ball home. I must say, he is one of the best young players in the world in my opinion. He has a high work out which the Bluesnoses will really take a shine too and he is disciplined most of the time. He would give Donaldson a run for his money and the competition may help.

The final player that I would like is Brandon Barker. He was on loan at Rotherham last year but only made 4 appearances so it is hard to say whether he is ready for the Championship. But the Manchester City player certainly has ability. He can play up top but is more of a winger which I think is also a void that we need to fill in the team. The thing that I notice about Brandon is how well he links together the team. His passing is often simple but he uses it well and keeps possession extremely well which is needed. He also chips in with goals which is a bonus from a wide player.

Overall, I would really hope that we have been looking at loan signings because our management are not able to bid high amounts for players so buying seems not to be an option.
