One To Watch: Liam Palmer

After the mince pies have been guzzled, our attention will turn once again to the mighty Blues’. On Boxing Day we play Sheffield Wednesday who have good form heading into the game and will certainly pose a threat to us.

Now, I rate quite a few of the Sheffield Wednesday players such as Loovens, Joao, Wallace, Bannan and Forestieri… But the one player that stands out for me is Liam Palmer.

Usually he plays out wide sometimes as a winger but mainly as a full back. The main thing I noticed about him is his stamina. He loves to bomb forward like most modern day wing backs, but he is always back in time to do his defensive duties. And he will do this for the whole game. I admire a player that can have that level of fitness as it shows willingness to work hard.

I also noticed that his final ball is often good. He has the pace to go past people and because it is the wingers job to pick him up, he can easily beat them. When he does deliver a final ball, it often goes to the striker whether it be Joao or Forestieri. This means that they get players into the box because they know it won’t be a wasted journey because Palmer can deliver.

As a young lad, he is very willing to go into challenges and not be scared of sticking a boot in. We will do well to get past him just by running therefore I think we need to increase the tempo up top in order to play our way around the defence rather than trying to dribble through them. Unfortunately this is what Gray and Maghoma are used to doing.

I believe that we have the ability to win the game. But we can’t keep giving chances away because they will be dispatched on Saturday, no question about that. Also, they may have an edge on us physically so I hope we play Davis in order to give some bite in the midfield.
