One To Watch: Jason Steele

This week sees a trip to the North West for Zola’s men as they take on Blackburn Rovers. The hosts are struggling in the Championship this season and despite picking up 6 points against Newcastle, they haven’t had a great season. So I am hoping that we can pick up points and it’ll be Zola’s first victory.

I have a lot of friends that support Blackburn Rovers and they have told me that their team often let their heads go down after conceding the first goal. Therefore the crucial aspect to the game is to start off quickly and with attacking intent to try and get a foothold in the game. When a team is at the bottom of the league then they often sit back and try to defend the game but Blackburn Rovers tend to try and attack which leaves gaps at the back which we can exploit. Due to this I think that their goalkeeper will be the man to watch and for this he will be my one to watch.

Having seen him at United in his younger days, it’s obvious that he has all the skills that are needed to make it as a top goalkeeper and even though he is late into his career now, he can use his experience to good use. He is very commanding of his box which gives confidence to an ever changing back line. He appears confident and therefore everyone around him seem to relax especially from crossing and corners by the opposition. But his best feature is his shot stopping. He seems to have reflexes that enable him to react in a split second in order to block shots. It’s quite remarkable how well he anticipates the direction of the ball. If it wasn’t for Steele then they would surely be in a lot worse position than they are now and that is certainly saying something.

Zola has said in his press conference that it is a must win game and it certainly is but I think that it is a game that we should win and we should actually be thinking that we are going to win. But Steele will be the man who will be the difference. If he is on fire then it’ll be hard for the men to get past him. But the confidence is high considering the new additions at the club this week and therefore I’m sure the Bluenoses will be excited for this one! It should be a great game but it will take time for the signings to settle in and gel so we must be patient and allow it to happen in time.
