One To Watch: Beram Kayal

Choosing Brighton’s most effective player was tough considering they’re unbeaten and sit pretty in the automatic play-off spots. But the player who has stood out the most for me this season is Beram Kayal.

Having made 16 appearances in the league this year, match sharpness will certainly not be an issue for Kayal. He has scored just the once and made 2 assists which is not what you’d expect from such a creative player.

However, his best assist is being a thorn in the oppositions side. Kayal is like that one wasp that follows you around on a summers day until it pinches that little bit of ice cream. 5 yellow cards so far this season averages 1 every 3 games. This shows that he isn’t scared of putting in tackles and really disrupting the flow of attacks.

All defenders need some sort of protection and it’s not just through tackling that a midfielder can help out his defence. What Kayal does is keep the ball effectively. I have seen him lose the ball only a handful of times. His passing is simple yet very consistent and this enables his team mates to do the more attacking side of the game.

However, he does possess pace and can join the attacks. Due to this, I hope we have Davis in to fill that spot just in front of the centre halves. This would cut off any potential attacks coming from this defensive position.

He is player who thrives on aggression. He loves getting stuck into players and therefore the Birmingham City lads will have to be up for this game. They need to be tackling well and showing them that we are no push overs.

In my eyes, Brighton’s defence is the strongest part of their team so we need to be creative going forward. I’d like to see Brown get a role in the game as I think he can bring that element of surprise that is needed to break down the resilient back four of Brighton.

Lewis Dunk, Zamora and Bruno are all players who the Blues’ will need to keep a close eye on too.
