One target missed, two more to slip through the net?

Over the past two weeks, Birmingham City have been linked with a trio of striking options, two from League One and one who had recently been made a free agent by his parent club, but with one already signing for a new club, could we miss out on all three?

It was announced earlier this month that Anthony Stokes had been released from Scottish champions Celtic and yesterday afternoon, Blues’ Sky Bet Championship companions Blackburn Rovers announced that he had signed a contract with them and he would join up with the squad when preseason training begins.

Ask yourself this now Blues fans, is this a sign of things to come? Will Blues miss out on further targets because they haven’t acted quickly enough to get things sorted out?

Over the weekend, Ewan Chester revealed that June was going to be a quiet month for the club with agents and players being on holidays etc etc, but it’s clearly not stopping other clubs making signings so why are we still slacking, especially when our targets are signing for other clubs.

Similar to the Stokes story which unfolded early yesterday evening around 5pm, it was revealed by Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom that the newly promoted side had bid for a target of Birmingham City, Walsall striker Tom Bradshaw.

Last week, the Birmingham Mail revealed that the club had made an enquiry for the forward who has scored 40 goals in the last two seasons for the Saddlers, but, like with Stokes, Blues could be able to lose out on one of the best strikers outside the top two divisions if they don’t act quickly enough.

The question I am asking myself with Bradshaw is this, is there more to the deal than meets the eye? As I discussed over the weekend, could we already have something in place with the club who play at the Banks’ stadium? Or is there more to it than both clubs are letting on? Nobody knows really but what I do know is if that we don’t bid for him soon, we aren’t going to be signing him and it could be a big mistake.

23-year-old Bradshaw only has one year left on his contract and with Walsall only asking £1 million for him, it is blowing my mind as to why we haven’t already put a bid in for him and why we haven’t done all we can to bring him in.

Another target that we look set to miss out on is Swindon Town forward Nicky Ajose. Last season, the 24-year-old scored 25 goals in all competitions and we brought you the news earlier this week that Blues were reportedly interested in his services.

However, yet again it looks like we could be about to miss out on a talented footballer who isn’t exactly out of our price range. On Friday, it was revealed that Charlton Athletic had had an initial bid of £800,000 accepted by Town and that the striker was now free to discuss terms with the Addicks.

By the sounds of things, this one looks like it could move quickly and Blues will have lost out on another supposed target. A source close to Vital Birmingham revealed that Ajose’s agent had already left the country which leaves us assuming that he is comfortable with the deal that is in place.

With nothing concrete on the Bradshaw bid yet, I think it is one that we should still keep a close eye on because I believe it will take off pretty quickly with preseason returning pretty soon.

Out of the three strikers on offer, I would have put the Wales international top of that list anyway, but if we don’t act soon, he could be one of our biggest regrets in recent years gone by.

Blues fans, would you favour a move for Tom Bradshaw ahead of anyone else who has been linked with us so far? Let us know in the comment section down below!
