Paul Robinson has signed a one-year extension to his Birmingham City contract. The 37 year-old will also incorporate a coaching role within the club`s development set-up.

Robinson, who made 27 appearances last season, was the subject of much debate amongst Blues fans. But the speculation has been put to bed after today`s announcement.

It`s unlikely that the club captain, who turns 38 in December, will be seen as a first team regular next season, but his experience around the dressing room and his influence with the younger crop of players played a big part in the decision to offer him a new deal.

Blues manager Gary Rowett told bcfc.com- “We wanted Robbo to stay and we are delighted that he has re-signed. This year he showed his value to the team and squad when he featured. Gone are the days when he will be playing 50-odd games-a-season. We both know that. But I believe he can still be influential in other areas as well: one of the ways working with the Under-21s, whilst still being available to play of course”.

To date, Robinson has clocked up 733 appearances in a career spanning two decades. He has formerly plied his trade at Watford, West Brom, Bolton and Leeds before joining Blues in 2012.
