Omar Bogle is a modern day success story. Going from Hinckley United to Solihull Moors, then to Grimsby Town. Now 24, Bogle has signed for Wigan Athletic for £750,000.

For Birmingham City, he could be the one that got away.

Having plied his trade in the Blues youth academy via West Brom, Bogle was released after two years. After trying, and failing, to make it at Celtic, he dropped down to non-league football to make his name.

His scoring record for the Moors was 66 in 116 games. Then he done the business for Grimsby, scoring 38 in 83 appareances. It’s easy to understand why there was a lot of interest in him from the Championship.

He’s already beginning to repay the free Wigan  paid for him. His two debut goals earned the Latics a valuable point against Norwich last night.

Bogle’s days at Blues may have been a long time ago, but it’s still a case of what could have been.
