Birmingham City got off to a positive start in a 3-0 away win against Nuneaton Town. The home side would have pleased their manager by holding their own at times against what was a full strength Birmingham set up.

Remaining in last seasons 4-2-3-1 formation, Blues fielded two different XI’s as Gary Rowett took the first proper look at his team this season.

It was a scrappy opener as Lee Novak pounced on a half cleared corner to make it 1-0 to Birmingham (25′). Up until that point it was a game of half chances.

Both teams completely changed their teams at half time and it was perhaps Nuneaton that started the brighter. The tide would again be pushed back in Birmingham’s favour as they doubled the lead on 70 minutes.

Andrew shinnie tapped it home from close range to get Blues 2-0 ahead. Cotterill the supplier.

Cotterill wasn’t the only David for the Birmingham fans to delighted with though, David Davis scored a wonderful effort to make it 3-0 and seal a good performance for Blues (72′).

All in all the fans were treated to an entertaining second half and a possession based first half. The fans also got to see some of the emerging talent from the Blues youth set up, such as Wes Harding along with trialist Griffiths.
