So, in the end, Garry Monk did twist against Wolves, rather than stick with the tried and trusted 4-4-2. If we had taken either of our two clear-cut chances at Molineux, the system change could have proven to be a masterstroke. As it was, it meant a second successive defeat.
I mentioned in a piece on Friday that we were in a catch-22 situation. Going two up top could have left us exposed to a morale-damaging heavy defeat, while a more defensive approach gave us little hope of getting anything from the encounter.
So, the manager went with the latter in the bid to contain the opposition. With the league leaders restricted to just six shots on target, the strategy worked for the most part, but at the crucial moments, we were found wanting.
It could have been all so different if Maxime Colin had slotted home after going through on goal early in the first half. But he is a right back for a reason, and that missed opportunity could have given us something concrete to hold on to.

The Barnsley draw against Bolton means the Tykes are now within two points with a game in hand. While the point gained by Wanderers moves them ahead of us with a -30 goal difference to our -31.
With games against Sheffield United, QPR and Fulham left to go, we have to go for it in my opinion. Although the more defensive approach against Wolves may have been called for, Monk needs to return to what has served him best since taking charge.
Heading into those three crucial encounters, the need for goals is absolutely paramount. Playing without fear is the best way to avoid the drop, and playing positively and with an attacking intent is surely the best way to go.
