Gary Rowett took his split of the Birmingham squad to Northampton, Sixfields. The Blues managed a 2-2 draw as they continued their preparations for the Championship season.

Demarai Gray scored a potent shot to open the scoring. Lee Novak and Shinnie combined to present the chance at the back post.

Peniel Mlapa had a worthy first half, his strength and hold up play made it difficult for the home team. Legzdins was called into action in the first half, providing a good save at the first time of asking.

Northampton scored soon after, Adams with a curling effort to make it all square.

Birmingham did end up chasing the game during the second period. Nicky Adams again found the back of the net to make it 2-1 to the home side.

Lee Novak had the final say after some good work down the left hand side for Blues. All in all a decent display of attacking effort for Birmingham, although there may be some reservations about the defending down that left-hand side.

Blues XI: Legzdins; Cogley, Morrison, Robinson, Hancox; Davis (Truslove 45), Griffiths (Crooks 57); Novak, Shinnie (Johnstone 69), Gray; Mlapa (Solomon-Otabor 77).

Unused subs: Townsend, Cotton, McDonald.
