Birmingham boss Lee Clark has no regrets about dropping Nikola Zigic from the side for Saturday even though in the end Birmingham lost the game 4-0.

Zigic found himself dropped by Clark after failing to put any effort into training in the build up to the game with Watford, the Birmingham boss described it as ‘possibly the worst training session in terms of a professional footballer I have ever come across’.

Fans were split in their feelings about whether Zigic should have been dropped or not, many believing that he could have made a difference for the Blues up front, but others agreed with Clark saying that the game would have been lost anyway.

Asked whether Zigic could have made a difference, Clark told reporters: ‘Who knows? We’ve ended up losing the game but I’ve not changed my opinion one little bit.

‘The decision I made was correct and proper, the principles are the same. Every day I’ve got high standards and there will never be one player bigger than this football club.’

Clark acknowledged that some fans were angry about the decision, but at the same time he knows that there can only be one person in charge of the running of the club and the rest of the players must do what he says, not a player who is showing a bad attitude.

He went on: ‘There’s been a split opinion about it – there’s some who have said it’s the right thing and some have said my man-management is in question because I should keep this in house.

‘Well, I’ve kept it in house because this was the fourth time I’ve had to have this conversation with him. There’s only so much you can keep in house before you have to go down another route.’
