No Noise During the Window

Birmingham City will be aiming to add 2 or 3 new players to the squad according to the official website. The club has already landed James Vaughan on loan, although arguably not a January signing. But Rowett won’t be allowing hints out of the club as to who might be on the way.

Despite bringing in cash via selling players, the club will not be re-investing that into the squad, some is to go back into the club to help run the operation. Leading some fans to worry about the long term vision for the club, and with little information available about who Blues are chasing, the worry grows.

I can see the issue with players leaving, such as the departure of Reece Brown, a player many Blues fans held dear to their first team dreams. But I take Rowett’s point that the club don’t see him near the first team and may need the money to put someone better into the team. The problem is are we missing out on a player that will become something special?

As for keeping things tight lipped, this is going to concern the fans. If time ticks on and nothing is forthcoming, then the age old assumptions that nothing is happening behind the scenes will be banded around – however untrue they may be.

The benefit though, far outweighs this. Not publically discussing players will not alert other clubs to the players possible availability. For a club on Birmingham’s budget, this is absolutely vital in getting quality players into the club.

Whilst I myself share the worry that we’ve let good players go, I note the club is not operating with capital that allows it to hold onto its assets to see if they mature properly and the apparent lack of signings will not bother me until the window closes.

What are your thoughts? do you even need to see 2 or 3 new players this window?
