No need for all the negativity, this could be the just be the starting point – Opinion

See, everything was fine.

Don’t know what you guys were worrying about. ‘Sacked in the morning’ some of you said, I mean come on guys and girls, let’s try and be a little more upbeat shall we?

What pleased me the most about Tuesday night, is that Pep Clotet fulfilled one of his promises. He spoke a couple of days ago that he is looking to be flexible with the team and their setups, which is why I was delighted to see that he had made so many changes from the week before, not only in personnel, like dropping Dan Crowley, but also with the formation as they lined up with a 3-1-4-2 formation compared to the 4-4-2 that he utilised against Forest.

What I will say though, is that I feel Pep is striking a very nice balance between the style he wants to play, and having to go ‘old school’ when he has to. Whilst he has brought in players with high pass completion rates like Dan Crowley and Ivan Sunjic, wanting to play nice intricate passes, it’s nice to see that they’re not scared to play the good old fashioned British style of physical football, like Lukas Jutkiewicz’s header at the back post for the first goal, or playing long balls over the top as they did for Alvaro Gimenez’s effort.

Whilst Birmingham didn’t have the best of pre-seasons when it came to some of their results, it’s fair to say that those weren’t a true reflection of what the side has become now. Some of the transfers hadn’t gone through, and the squad wasn’t fully formed. Now that he’s got things the way he wants, we should see results start to come.

Oh, and because I know I’ll be slaughtered if I don’t say this, I’ll do it now. Well done to Lee Camp for keeping his second clean sheet of the season, congratulations sir. Although according to Pep, that was more down to the men in front of him:

“We managed to counter-balance Barnsley very well to avoid Campy having a tough night. That’s a huge credit not only to the defenders but the midfielders who were working to support them and the strikers who were working very hard in defence.”

So it wasn’t all down to him, but it’s in the record books, so I suppose I’ll have to give it to him. Kudos to you Lee.
