Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has insisted that the referee was not to blame for Blues getting nothing from the game with Coventry last night.

Coventry won for the first time in 23 years at St Andrews and the winning goal came from old boy Clinton Morrison.

But as the game came to an end, it looked as if Coventry had finally buckled under Blues pressure when Franck Queudrue’s shot seemed to have crossed the line.

But the referee Anthony Bates and his assistants were unable to say for certain that the ball had gone over the line and no goal was given.

McLeish said, ‘If they haven’t seen it, they can’t make it up. That would be a terrible decision. Even the television guys said it was inconclusive.

“These things happen in football. We have to take it on the chin and move on.’
