News of transfer might seem negative, but we shouldn’t give up hope – Report

|

Looks like we can put this one to bed after a few years.

Although there’s perhaps one very small chink of light at the end of the tunnel.

According to TeamTalk, it looks like former Blues target Marcus Maddison isn’t going anywhere during the January transfer window. The report states that he is going to be kept at the League One club where they are looking to build a side that will make a push at promotion to the Championship.

Having been linked with Maddison before back in 2017 as well as in 2018, it certainly isn’t out of the realms of possibility that the Blues would be interested in going after him again. However, it appears as though he’s going to be staying at London Road for the immediate future at least.

However, the report does also list a rather interesting name, and that’s Ivan Toney.

Toney has really found his feet since moving to Peterborough, scoring sixteen goals in the league last season and scoring eight goals in eight appearances to start off this campaign. Now whilst Peterborough are claiming that Toney will not be sold this upcoming window, we all know that everyone has their price, even at the very high end of the game. And just because someone rules out selling a player, doesn’t mean that their arm can’t be twisted later on. So I think that we need to ‘call their bluff’ essentially and try and make a bid for him.

It’s obvious to see that the Blues are somewhat limited when it comes to the centre-forward department, and if anything ever happens to our top scorer Lukas Jutkiewicz then we could certainly be in trouble somewhere further down the line. Why not at least try and bring in someone like this who is a proven goalscorer and would be a perfect complement alongside Jutkiewicz, or even as a rotation option for him.

What about you? Do you think these are the kinds of moves the Blues should be looking at making? Or do you think that they should be turning their attention elsewhere?
