New Ruling To Help Upson

Not sure of the validity of this and must admit I didn’t realise the new Fifa ruling about players buying out their contract was already in force, I thought it was still to be brought in.

But some sources are claiming that Upson will now try and buy out his contract with Birmingham and could do so for around a £1 million.

The Mirror are claiming that he is furious after the latest bid from West Ham was turned down and verbal volleys in the press would indicate that.

Fifa rules allow players now in some cases to negotiate a move away from their clubs regardless of the length of contract remaining if they pay compensation based on the remaining salary.

Ignoring the fact such a ruling is a bloody joke, a contract is a contract is a contract unless player and club agree to break it. With such a ruling what the hell is the point of having a contract to begin with….

Anyway, Andy Webster apparently used this ridiculous loophole to leave Hearts and join Wigan but I do think the circumstances must be that the player has requested a transfer and the club can be shown to be acting stupidly over a move. At least then it makes some sense in it’s current form.

If that is the case I doubt very much that Upson would try this, afterall he’s already clearly shown the only reason he won’t submit a written is because of the money he would lose – being a greedy, unloyal, well you know.

Anyway it’s food for thought, and yet another example of Fifa being clueless idiots that do seem hell bent on ruining what used to be a beautiful, respectful game.
