Since his arrival from Arsenal at the beginning of this season with Bendtner and Larsson, Fabrice Muamba has consistently said how much he is enjoying his time at Birmingham City.

Always playing with a smile on his face, the leggy midfielder took a couple of games to settle in but then started to demonstrate why Wenger had labelled him as ‘the new Vieira’.

Tough in the tackle, this lad has a knack of winning the ball. Although not the playmaker brand of midfield player, he is an excellent holding option for the club, especially when paired with the experienced Clemence who seems to have taken his young playing partner under his wing.

The Arsenal loanee also has good pace and a great desire to make good his errors. If he loses the ball he is quick to track back to regain possession, often covering miles in a game.

He has quickly become a favourite amongst Birmingham fans to the extent of being ‘awarded’ his own song.

‘Volare’ is a favourite amongst terrace songsters as it seems to lend itself well to rewriting. In this case the magic lines are ‘he was a refugee, and now he’s quality’ – as of course, Muamba arrived in the UK from the war-torn Democratic Republic of the Congo and is now a British citizen.

Steve Bruce has already stated that he will do everything possible to secure Fabrice Muamba’s permanent signing if Birmingham are successful in the race for automatic promotion.
