Monk Explains Why He’s Holding Fire On Making Final Birmingham Signing

|

Garry Monk has outlined his major concerns as to why it may not be wise to make any more additions to the squad this summer.

The manager is aware that the team needs strengthening, but he is worried that if there is an injury crisis between now and January we won’t have any chance of bringing in new players:

“We are continuing and we will do it right until the last minute, we are hopeful something will come. The other bit of it is there are a few positions we need to strengthen.”

“And in January as well, if we need something there, imagine we have a crisis with the wingers. If we do our one remaining transfer now, we won’t be able to do anything in January. There are so many factors and constraints it’s not easy.”

It’s entirely understandable that Monk would look to hold fire on making another signing as you don’t know what could in the next few months.

I think it is very wise to keep that transfer option in reserve just in case. If an opportunity does pop up then we should definitely try to do something, but we should probably stick with what we have for now.

Even though we are definitely short in central midfield, and could do with another striker, the limitations that are in place means the manager is pretty powerless which is extremely frustrating, to say the least.
